Are the courses really free?

Yes. Every course is free and open to anyone with an account. You only pay for the exam voucher when you decide to certify.

What does IDFE certify?

Two tracks. Computer Forensics: Digital Forensics Foundation (DFF), Computer Forensic Examiner (CFX), Mobile Forensic Examiner (MFX) and Forensic Report & Expert Testimony (FRET). Digital Assets: Blockchain Explorer (BE, free), Digital Assets Foundations (DF), Certified Digital Assets Professional (DA), Certified Crypto Compliance Professional (CC), Certified Blockchain Analyst (BA) and Certified Crypto Forensics Specialist (CF).

Do I need to pass one exam before another?

No. Every exam is independent. Each track shows a recommended order for people who are starting out, but experienced professionals can go straight to the exam that matches their work.

What is the practical lab in BA and CF?

After you pass the multiple-choice part, a 7-day window opens to sit a hands-on lab (90 minutes for BA, 120 for CF) on a case generated for you alone, with a SQL console, a transaction graph or an evidence viewer in the browser. Answers are structured and graded automatically. The certificate is issued only when both parts are passed.

What does a practical exam look like?

CFX and MFX have two parts. Part A is multiple choice. Part B gives you an evidence package you have never seen and asks you to answer specific questions about it with the tools of your choice.

Which tools can I use in Part B?

Any tool, commercial or free. The answers are facts about the evidence, so the course teaches with free tools and the exam does not depend on any vendor.

How is FRET graded?

You receive a case file with technical findings and six questions, and you have 72 hours to submit a written report. You then receive five challenging questions about your report, as opposing counsel would put them, and answer them in writing within 24 hours. Two examiners grade everything independently against a published rubric. Results take up to 15 business days.

In which languages can I take the exams?

The site and courses are in English, Spanish and Portuguese. An exam opens in a language only when its whole item bank has been translated and reviewed. The exam page always shows the current status.

How long is a certificate valid?

Five years from the date of issue. To renew, you pass the current version of the exam again.

What does a voucher include?

Two attempts within 12 months. If the first attempt fails, the second opens 7 days later at no cost.

Does an IDFE certification qualify me to act as a court-appointed expert?

No. Appointment as an expert depends on the rules of each country and court. An IDFE certification is independent evidence of knowledge and practical skill.

Are the exams proctored?

No. There is no webcam and no screen recording. Timing, answer patterns and practical evidence are reviewed for integrity, and attempts can be invalidated after review.
